PLAYGROUND MADE FROM RECYCLED WASTE OFFERS EXCITING LEARN-AND-PLAY EXPERIENCE

A brand-new playground has opened at the Seraphin Waste-to-Energy Plant (Tùng Thiện Ward, Hà Nội), built primarily from old tyres and recycled plastic. Designed to make the most of an empty courtyard area within the plant’s grounds, the playground offers a rich ‘journey of play’, ranging from tyre rocking horses, a chase bridge, a tunnel, a balance beam, and a seesaw to seating areas, making it an ideal space for schoolchildren and young children to visit and learn about the environment, the circular economy, and sustainable development.

FOREIGN PROPERTY FIRM SPONSORS OUTDOOR PLAYGROUND FOR PRIMARY SCHOOL PUPILS

To mark the start of the new school year, Think Playgrounds, in collaboration with the Thư Lâm Commune Women’s Union and sponsor CBRE Việt Nam, organised the handover of a playground for primary pupils of Thư Lâm Primary and Lower Secondary School in Hà Nội. The playground consists of a slide, a swing, tyre rocking equipment, and seesaws, along with traditional painted playground games, built and installed by a team of volunteers comprising CBRE staff, members of the Commune Women’s Union, and some teachers. This meaningful activity has created a dedicated space for the children here to play, explore things, and develop comprehensive skills.

EXPERTS, COMMUNITY JOIN HANDS TO PROMOTE URBAN BIODIVERSITY

UNDP Việt Nam, the Hà Nội Architects’ Association, and representatives from the local Women’s Union and communities in Hồng Hà Ward joined Think Playgrounds in receiving a delegation from the International Climate Initiative (IKI) of the German Federal Ministry for the Environment, Climate Action, Nature Conservation and Nuclear Safety (BMUKN), who were visiting the riverside area on the south bank of the Red River in Hà Nội and learning about the activities currently underway as part of the ‘Community-based environmental management initiatives’ in this area. The activities include waste management, creating equitable and inclusive community spaces, raising awareness, and developing ecological skills, conserving and promoting urban biodiversity alongside the creation of green jobs, and, in particular, preparations for the ‘Ecological Trail’ at the Hà Nội Creative Design Festival in November.

THINK PLAYGROUNDS REPRESENTATIVE JOINS NUS STUDENTS IN ‘SENSING LANDSCAPE’

Think Playgrounds recently took part in the ‘Sensing Landscape’ studio for first-year Landscape Architecture students at the National University of Singapore (NUS) as a guest speaker. During the session, Co-Founder and Creative Director Nguyễn Tiêu Quốc Đạt shared with the students some community art projects along the ecological trail on the Red River’s south bank in Hà Nội, in which Think Playgrounds, together with artists, communities, and partners both domestically and internationally, has proposed creative ideas to enhance the shared living space between people and nature within the city.

THINK PLAYGROUNDS’ FLOATING HOUSE DESIGN ON RED RIVER INTRODUCED TO JAPANESE STUDENTS

A group of students from the Department of Architecture at Meiji University (Japan) undertook a field trip to Hà Nội under the guidance of Think Playgrounds and visited the floating village on the Red River. Co-Founder and Creative Director Nguyễn Tiêu Quốc Đạt and architect Chu Thị Ngọc Anh (project lead) shared insights into the co-design process for disaster-resilient floating houses that aimed to utilise lightweight materials and optimise costs. The students were also introduced to activities involving the repair, reinforcement, and renovation of public spaces within the neighbourhood, thereby contributing to the creation of safer, more sustainable living environments for the community.

ARCHITECT JOB REDEFINED: NOT EXCLUSIVE TO A GENDER

Think Playgrounds’ Co-Founder and Executive Director, architect Chu Kim Đức, appeared in an interview video as part of the ‘Chính Nữ — Vì bạn xứng đáng’ (You Deserve It) media campaign by Tatler Việt Nam, which aims to honour women who have chosen to live, work, and pursue their beliefs in their own unique way, thereby redefining the narratives society has pre-determined for their gender.

‘PROTECTING CHILDHOOD SPACES IN THE CITY’ CAMPAIGN

This year’s Mid-Autumn Festival, in collaboration with our sponsors Ford and Generali – The Human Safety Net, alongside our partners the National Fund for Vietnamese Children, Khau Phạ Friends, and WildAct, Think Playgrounds presented a ‘Đàn Gà’ (Little Chickens) playground and a ‘Chú Sư Tử’ (Lion) playground to the Khau Phạ neighbourhood (Tú Lệ Commune, Lào Cai Province) and Cư Tê Hamlet (Cư Pui Commune, Đắk Lắk Province), respectively, to bring the festive vibes and the joy of carefree play to the local children. This was part of our campaign ‘Protecting childhood spaces in the city’ in which we strive to maintain friendly, safe, and creative play spaces, and ensure the Right to play for all children with the cooperation and long-term support from the whole community.
