Eco-Landscapes
Think Playgrounds has a strong focus on the ecological environment in which they work. Deep research is carried out to understand the local context & preserve the ecosystem. Designs are carried out with nature-based self-management & integrate elements of education for the community members as well as all contractors & staff collaborating on each project.
Ecological landscapes are known to have a multi-dimensional impact on community health. With formats such as community gardens, forest parks & eco-parks, Think Playgrounds’ designs promote natural regeneration, & enhance ecological diversity.
Community gardens are a method of connecting the community, creating safe & quality public spaces & improving the quality of the microclimate. Since 2019, Think Playgrounds has been testing the community garden model in Hanoi with the community to renovate spaces into vegetable gardens, spice gardens, medicinal gardens, etc.
Community gardens in Ngoc Ha, Tan Mai, Dong Anh, Chuong Duong, and Phuc Tan based on organic agriculture and forest garden philosophy have brought positive social and ecological effects, especially to women and children.
The community gardens initiated by Think Playgrounds use the “forest garden” model, a unique combination of forest trees & crops, also known as agroforestry. With this farming model, managers need to spend little time taking care of the plants, while the plants & the natural ecosystem in which they grow & develop by themselves, solving problems with pests & diseases, & providing nutrients based on the food chain. The multi-layered canopy structure of the forest garden has created a rich ecosystem, contributing to creating a diverse, healthy & abundant food source for humans.
Green spaces are an indispensable part & directly affect the quality of life of urban residents, but they need to be done properly, aiming for sustainability through promoting ecological diversity & natural solutions.
Forest parks & ecological experiences need to be spread & expanded to bring benefits to all parties of society, environment, economy & contribute to the sustainable development of cities. Educational activities allow for a stronger understanding of the need to protect the local environment.
