‘WINGS OVER THE CITY’ EXHIBITION WRAPS UP BIRD-WATCHING PROGRAMME WITH LOMONOSOV STUDENTS
On 13 April, the ‘Wings Over The City’ exhibition took place at the Lomonosov Secondary and High School in Hà Nội, the final installment of the educational programme on exploring urban wildlife participated by 25 students of the school. At the exhibition, the art projects initiated by the students based on the outcome of their field trip at the Hà Nội Museum and under the guidance of the experts were presented, particularly seven paintings and installations using recycled materials such as cardboard and dried branches. These art works showcased the students’ perspectives about the wild birds and their habitats. In addition, attendees had the space to share their thoughts and feedback after visiting, along with interactive activities such as crafting origami bird shapes and a quiz with prizes. The programme was a collaboration between Think Playgrounds, the Việt Nam Bird Conservation Society (VBCS), and the school’s German language teachers; and was funded by the Goethe-Institute Hà Nội as part of the German government’s ‘Schools: Partners for the Future’ (PASCH) initiative.
BIRD-LISTENING STATIONS INSTALLED AT VARIOUS ECOLOGICAL LANDMARKS IN FORMER TAM KỲ CITY
Three bird-listening stations recording that apply artificial intelligence to interpret the sounds of various bird species have been installed in the areas of Đầm River, Tam Kỳ Community Digital Library, and Vườn Cừa eco-tourism in the former Tam Kỳ City of Quảng Nam Province (now part of Đà Nẵng City). These areas have wetland ecosystems with diverse flora and fauna, including many wild birds; therefore, these locations have great potential for developing ecotourism. The stations recently installed in Tam Kỳ were implemented by Think Playgrounds in cooperation with Live & Learn Việt Nam and the Đà Nẵng City Department of Agriculture and Environment, along with partners and young participants in the ‘Green Citizens – Healthy Cities’ project funded by Fondation Botnar (Switzerland) through the coordination of Ecorys UK – a socio-economic research and consulting firm.
NOTICE ON RELOCATION OF THÁNH GIÓNG PLAYGROUND IN TEMPLE OF LITERATURE RELIC SITE (HÀ NỘI)
Our Thánh Gióng inclusive playground at the Giám Garden in Hà Nội’s Temple of Literature (Văn Miếu–Quốc Tử Giám) relic complex has recently been moved about 100 metres further inside (closer to the Tôn Đức Thắng Street side), at the request of the site’s management unit. Please take note when visiting the playground!
VOLUNTEER TOURISTS HELP BUILD SCHOOL PLAYGROUNDS FOR LOCAL STUDENTS
Last month, Think Playgrounds collaborated with the tour operator Indochina Heritage to coordinate a group of international volunteers who came to help build and install playgrounds for students at the Duy Nghĩa No 3 Primary School in Duy Nghĩa Commune, Đà Nẵng City (formerly Duy Xuyên District, Quảng Nam Province). Under the guidance of Think Playgrounds’ representatives, the group members were divided into teams with specific tasks — drawing and painting a new playground, cleaning and renovating lawn areas, and installing new playground equipment on a lawn then colouring them. Despite the hot, sunny weather in early summer, the volunteers remained active and dedicated throughout their activities. Together with the local students, they created playground games painted on a ground area and transformed an empty lawn into a proper playground. This event was a meaningful life lesson about sharing, teamwork, and community care that goes beyond borders.
LOCAL COMMUNITY’S OPINIONS COLLECTED ON IMPROVING ENVIRONMENT IN RED RIVER BANK AREA
Think Playgrounds recently coordinated a site inspection and consultation event with the local community and some partners on the Red River Ecological Trail, focusing on environmental management solutions for the Red River’s south bank area in the former Phúc Tân and Chương Dương wards (now part of Hồng Hà Ward, Hà Nội). The event was participated by about 40 people of various ages, genders, and backgrounds, mostly representatives from the neighbourhood and local women’s associations, along with Vietnamese and international experts in ecology and urban planning. The participants travelled the Ecological Trail together to understand the current situation and discussed solutions. Ideas were put forward to address waste and wastewater issues, and to protect native plant species and wildlife in the south bank area, which is a unique ecological buffer zone in the heart of the city.
PROTECTING CHILDHOOD SPACES IN THE CITY
Think Playgrounds has been putting efforts in playground maintenance, recently reinforcing and replacing components for a swing and a seesaw to ensure stability and safety. The activity is a part of our‘Protecting childhood spaces in the city’ campaign in which we strive to maintain friendly, safe, and creative play spaces, and ensure the Right to Play for all children with the cooperation and long-term support from the whole community.
COMMUNITY RAISES FUNDS TO REPAIR FLOATING HOUSES FOR DISADVANTAGED FAMILIES
To date, 11 houses have been renovated and rebuilt in total. However, there are still 10 households living in houses severely damaged from the historic typhoon Yagi in 2024 and the floods in 2025. in need of community support to repair their houses after the flood season. Among them, Ms Nghiêm Thị Ngân’s family, which has four children, is in urgent need of having their house rebuilt due to the current one deteriorating and requiring significant repair costs.
