BVIS STUDENTS EXPERIENCE SERVICE LEARNING AT CHƯƠNG DƯƠNG FOREST PARK (HÀ NỘI)

Students from British Vietnamese International School Hanoi – BVIS Hanoi (BVIS), with the guidance from Think Playgrounds and the local community, participated in their service learning programme with activities such as planting at the community garden, cleaning up waste around the forest park, and garden scavenger hunt. Through this experience, the students were in touch with nature, learned about biodiversity in a fun and engaging way, and contributed to promoting and supporting urban biodiversity and community development at a very young age.


THINK PLAYGROUNDS DELEGATION EXPLORES COMMUNITY GARDEN PRACTICES ACROSS ASIA

In early March, Think Playgrounds’ representatives attended the National University of Singapore (NUS)’s Gardening Workshop as Guest Speakers to share our experience in community garden development along with other Guests Speakers from Singapore, Malaysia, Philippines, Thailand, South Korea, and Japan. This was the conclusion to NUS’s three-part ‘Perforating the City’ workshop series examining social and spatial practices in community engagement, commoning, and gardening. With the participation of research experts and practitioners from multiple urban gardening areas, the Gardening Workshop facilitated discussions and broadened perspectives of ways to develop community gardens with the co-design approach and utilize the local resources to encourage contribution to the collective space, and enhance the community autonomy and bonding.


STUDENTS FROM LOMONOSOV SCHOOL (HÀ NỘI) EXPLORE URBAN WILD BIRDS

Recently, Think Playgrounds collaborated with the Lomonosov Secondary and High School’s German language teachers and experts from the Vietnamese Academy of Forest Sciences and the Việt Nam Bird Conservation Society to kick off an educational programme on exploring urban wildlife for the students. The programme, funded by the Goethe-Institut Hà Nội, is part of the German government’s ‘Schools: Partners for the Future’ (PASCH) initiative, and is an innovative approach that aims to integrate bird watching and urban biodiversity education into school curricula. An exhibition of students’ creative products will take place on April 14th morning at Lomonosov in Hanoi.


CO-FOUNDER NGUYỄN TIÊU QUỐC ĐẠT: HÀ NỘI’S RED RIVER APPROACH SHOULD PRIORITISE ECOSYSTEM, COMMUNITY

In a new-year interview with Hà Nội Mới newspaper, Think Playgrounds’ Co-Founder and Creative Director Nguyễn Tiêu Quốc Đạt expressed his opinions on Hà Nội’s ‘Red River miracle’ approach. Accordingly, the city should not concentrate too much on large-scale projects and iconic constructions; instead, it should find out how to respect the local ecosystem as well as community in planning.

In an interview on the Trend+ podcast, Architect Chu Kim Đức, Think Playgrounds’ Co-Founder and Executive Director, shared her journey in finding the ‘right to play’ for children and urban residents from crowded sidewalks and concrete courtyards to even neglected riverside plots of land. These urban spaces, if re-evaluated with the care and cooperation of the community, can absolutely become valuable ‘breathing spaces’ in the heart of the city.

PROTECTING CHILDHOOD SPACES IN THE CITY

Last month, Think Playgrounds supported the renovation of the public playground in Gia Thượng Street in the residential group No 19 Ngọc Thuỵ of Bồ Đề Ward (Hà Nội) with a new wooden playset, replacing the previous deteriorated and unsafe plastic multi-level slide. The activity is a part of our campaign ‘Protecting childhood spaces in the city’ in which we strive to maintain friendly, safe, and creative play spaces, and ensure the Right to Play for all children with the cooperation and long-term support from the whole community.

COMMUNITY RAISES FUNDS TO REPAIR FLOATING HOUSES FOR DISADVANTAGED FAMILIES

To date, 11 households have been renovated and rebuilt in total. However, there are still 10 households living in houses severely damaged from the historic typhoon Yagi in 2024 and the floods in 2025. in need of community support to repair their houses after the flood season.
